Never changing sky
Hello Gregory, I was pondering the other day about a dream I recently had. It sparked my curiosity quite a bit and thought I would share it with you. I was sitting in the middle of a vacant field, full of nothing, but Yellow flowers that kind of looked like daisies. The sky was a weird grayish color, but didn't really look like a real sky, it was more like a fake ceiling, painted like a sky. Kind of like I was in the movie "The Truman Show." I would run as far and as fast as I possibly could, but I never seemed to be able to make it anywhere. No matter how far I would run I never seemed to go anywhere and the scenery never, ever changed. I was beginning to feel kind of trapped and like I would never get out of this field and it started to frighten me a lot. Finally right before my dream ended I reached a tree line. I dashed as fast as I could for the tree line, but as soon as I reached it and thought I was going to be free from the never ending field... BAM! I awoke from my dream.

Hi Greg (no relation to myself), and welcome to Tell Us A Dream,
In your correspondence with me you made some very incisive self-analysis about what you thought this dream meant. You said this dream represents where you might be right now, in a life situation that never changes. You feel stuck, stagnant. Note that the sky was gray, not blue. It's as if you were trapped in a giant cubicle, that the world has become a cubicle, rather than a dynamic and unpredictable stage drama. It doesn't go on forever, though, there is a tree line in the distance. Beyond the tree line, who knows? And that is precisely what life is about.
I would also point out the presence of yellow flowers, like sun flowers. The sun flower literally represents the sun. It is the sun brought to earth. It is light, joy, and life. You might even say the sun is the external God, because if the sun cannot penetrate the gray barrier that overshadows you, then it will come down to you. It is the source of the creative force, it is will power, it is the fire within you, it is your hidden youth bursting forth. Look at the Rider-Waite tarot card "Sun" sometime to see an example of what I am driving at.
All dreams have some balance. Hidden in the bleakness, there is light, and a message of hope. We see that bright spot represented in an otherwise dreary, monotonous situation. You have light to guide you along the way in the yellow flowers, and you have a goal to reach in the distant trees. It sounds like you are simply en route in a deliberate, planned life, which is good. But it could use a little constructive deviation from time to time. My recommendation? Move one foot in front of the other. Lift your little finger and wiggle it. Pick up a paintbrush, a welding torch, or a pen. Put yourself in an unpredictable situation, one that you haven't a backup plan for. Safely, of course. I'm not saying crash a Hell's Angels jamboree, but maybe go knocking on some friend's door who you haven't seen in a while. If you have kids and are driving a long distance, you have heard them say, "Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" This may be where you are at on your life course. You can get to your destination from the slow, scenic route just as surely as you can get there from the freeway.

I just discovered the dream column and find it very interesting. I love dreams because I think they are an extension of reality and if we get into the practice of remembering them and writing them down, we will begin to interpret them to their fullest extent. It can be helpful to share them for a different point of view, but I find many times that the subtle messages within dreams can be highly personal so that they would only have real meaning for the dreamer... not always of course.thanks for listening,KimPlease log in to respond to this comment.Kim, you are so right. As we all know, we can only convey a fraction of what the dream was actually like, and most of the details are missed in the retelling. Also, it is always important to reflect on what the dream might mean to you, as the subject in the above dream did an excellent job of doing.- GPlease log in to respond to this comment.
